I used to root my devices and was a flashaholic.
Personally to me today it's more important to have a secure phone. If it's stolen I know I can remotely wipe it and FRP will stop anyone from using it.

I used to root my device the day I got it. However, since I got the Pixel XL (1st gen), I've never needed to.

I rooted my first two devices but not the latest.
The need to root is diminishing in my opinion.

If you want control over your device then root is the only option using the Magisk method makes root a whole lot easier and safer.
All my devices use TWP for recovery and Magisk for Root.
I would recommend XDA developers and following the guides for adding recovery and root to your device.

I have unlockedy bootloader to get rid of MiUi and install custom ROMs, and the ROM I have comes pre-rooted. I use root for apps that sometimes needs special permissions to modify settings, browse system files freely, and use Magisk modules (like QuickSwitch by Lawnchair team)

How is this even a question, when we're talking about an OS designed from the ground up to shove ads in your face at every step and track your every move? I miss Nokia/Symbian so much, a powerful OS with several features still missing from Android as of the latest version, and no advertising bullshit built into it.
Today you're stuck between non stop ads and a locked down FisherPrice OS that you pay through the nose for (iOS)
Can't imagine not rooting in order to nuke all ad related components from apps, as well as being able to do a nandroid backup of all my app data. And that's before we come to awesome custom ROMs like LineageOS and its derivatives.
Easy to root and supported by popular custom ROMs is the first consideration for me when looking at new phones. Rocking a OnePlus 3 for almost 3 years now, with Resurrection Remix Pie, and all security patches for Android upto July 2019.
