For those that use VirusTotal, please read this!

VirusTotal shows 1/62 for a 'Fyben Adware' detection (whatever that is). Specifically, it detects the 'classes.dex' file, which I didn't even touch.

Mod:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/7a6 ... /relations

Original (APKPure):
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/796 ... /relations

Under this 'Relations' tab, scroll down to 'Bundled Files' and you'll see that the original actually flags the 'classes.dex' file as well, but still shows 0/63 :!: (SERIOUSLY!?)

You can compare the 'classes.dex' hash from both reports and verify they match:
SHA-256: 85331b95b5489e1bb1fc9b849aafe4f08da0deb9d83f876e307e7407a7ef5048

You can also search the 'classes.dex' hash in VirusTotal and see its own report. (1/60)

We get a lot of false positives, but it looks like VirusTotal will also falsely assert negatives :!:

Cheers

I stopped using virustotal years ago, it`s so unreliable with its constant false positives and misleading results.
If that`s peoples only way of scanning things then I guess it`s better than nothing but the sad reality is that people will uninstall a lot of apps that are perfectly safe.

I agree that it's better than nothing and better to err on the side of caution. At least the end user can educate themselves on the specific detection found based on the credibility of the AV and along with the type of app, its permissions, and the uploader, they can then make an informed decision.

More than anything I'm just skeptical of the logic used for the overall detection rating.

While I'm 100% sure the developer did not include adware in the app and that this single detection by "MaxSecure" is definitely a false positive, it would be interesting to find more of these false negatives / conflicting reports.

UPDATE:
Looks like VirusTotal fixed their mistake. Glad I grabbed the screenshot for proof. ;)

But now all my signed mods have 'K7GW Trojan ( 00573e651 )' which is K7GW flagging my signing key, which obviously can't be a Trojan, FFS.

Thanks K7GW, I'm flattered!

Sincerely,
Trojan ( 00573e651 )

LMAO, I`ve never heard of that AV before.
Always the AV`s that no one has heard of that flag stuff up consistently and never any of the well known AV`s.
Virustotal would be a more reliable tool if it just used about 10 engines and removed all the trash engines.
