I was losing my mind trying to figure out this problem and then realized this site has some of the smartest people in the world on it and someone here could probably help me. I would like to hook up my Galaxy S4 and/or my Google Nexus 7 to our Insignia HDTV with a micro usb to hdmi adapter/cable and I can't figure out which ones would actually work (looking on Amazon.com currently as I live in a void and nobody carries them in a store) for me. I see that some have remotes (which would be needed) or have the technology to use a current HDTV remote for viewing ease. However, I am running into problems finding one that works with the S4 in the $25 USD or under range.

Has anyone tried it with the S4? with a Nexus 7? How are the remotes? And what one did you find that works with this phone?

Any help appreciated!!!!

I think any micro USB to HDMI adapter would work perfectly fine with your SGS4, as the SGS4 supports them natively out the box. But I don't believe the Nexus 7 supports the use of micro USB to HDMI output straight out the box, so you may have to install a 3rd party app or a custom ROM to get feature to work on your Nexus 7.

Thank you. I will just have to refrain from texting long enough to watch something then!

old post I know still relevant for new hardware ..to add here not just any old MHL cable will work with galaxy s4 it needs to be an MHL 2 cable I have an original genuine Samsung MHL cable that I got for my s2 it wont work at all with S4 I had to buy a new one the Mark 2 or MHL 2 this is also the case with the TAB 3 10.1 and note tablets :-)

I'll also add that playing a video typically drains the battery on the S4 faster than you can charge it through the HDMI cable. Much better to go transmit wirelessly with a chromecast and the Allcast app or Plex.

That is true but most HDMI MHL cables come with an additional microUSB part use to connect your android device to the mains socket as a power supply for use while connect to a TV.
