Yea, there's so many out there and it's hard to find one that's really any good.
I've found the 3 vpn apps that are my go-to apps:
VPN Speed
VPN Master
USA VPN
They all have very similar designs but they seem to use different servers - from my experience.
I have all of them installed however I'll keep two of them frozen with Titanium Backup so if one isn't performing, I'll freeze it and defrost one of the other ones and use that.
Usually I can have one connected for a whole day and get pretty good performance.
Once connected I always do an IP check here:
https://www.whatismyip.com/my-ip-information/
And the speed test here:
https://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth-test/optus-speed-test/1
They're all available on Mobilism and all seem pretty solid, however always expect slight reduction in speed due to the extra hops.
I don't use the split tunneling options as I find it affects performance. They can also play havoc with some email servers like Hotmail, especially an email app that regularly syncs. Hotmail's security features detect the multiple log ins from different countries/severs and treat it as unusual activity.
Although I use these apps from here, I also signed up to Ivacy VPN. It's mobile app still seems underrated with performance and reliably questionable for me. However, it performs quite well on Windows and they recently did a major update which has improved things for me.
I signed up for about $49 for a lifetime premium user subscription which means I get access till 2022 then I contact them and they renew it for free - if they're still around.
Go check out XDA Depot:
https://depot.xda-developers.com/
They always have pretty good deals for a lot of software, if you're interested - and read reviews!!!
And If you do decide to sign up to a VPN, make sure they don't keep logs!!!
Hope it helps

Psiphon and TOR (Orbot). The bottom line with VPNs, you can never have too many!

Currently on my phone:
Above
TouchVPN
Hideman - free version, gives 7 x 1 hour session per week
VPNCloud
TapVpn
OperaVPN
InternetVPN
USA VPN
VPN True
VPN Speed
VPN Master
Secure VPN
VPN Private
Jailbreak VPN
Not had much joy with cracked versions of CyberGhost and Hotspot Shield.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't!
