Aviasoft Pocket Minerals PRO & LITE 1.1 (Freeware)
Requirements: Windows Mobile o/s, Dot Net 2.0CF, QVGA, VGA
Overview: Pocket Minerals Pro is a minerals and gemstones Atlas with 4144 minerals and add-on photo-pack of 1675 Images. There is a 'LITE' version for interested amateurs and a 'PRO' version for serious users and professionals.
The optional PHOTO-PACKS give screen sized images for the LITE version and extra large SVGA images for the PRO version. The LITE version has a slideshow option to allow amateurs to select and learn about minerals from their photos.
The PRO version requires at least 15mb of free memory to run but the LITE version requires less than this.

Download Instructions:
- Choose your version: 'Lite' or 'Pro' and download the CAB Pack.
- Optional: download an appropriate Photo-Pack.
- For PM Lite using QVGA Screen download the QVGA PHOTO-PACK.
- For all other options download the SVGA PHOTO-PACK.

Yes, maybe that is slightly confusing. ;)

There are two packs of pictures: QVGA for the Lite version, and SVGA for all others.

SVGA (Super VGA) is 800x600 image size. The images are 'over-sized' SVGA images, for the Pro version because it has a 'zoom and scan' feature allowing users to view up close to the image even though they are using a physically small ppc screen.

So 'Lite' users with QVGA screens use the 'QVGA photo pack'.

Everyone else download the SVGA sized image pack. It is essential for Pro users to have over sized images, I am informed.

(If you want to use VGA and the Lite version and are not bothered with screen sized images then the QVGA photo pack will work with VGA.)

Dear Sir Dasai. :) I am really hoping you might make a mirror of these files if you get the time. :) :) Believe it or not I have spend several nights just trying to upload these filesets. :lol:

I really did... thanks Sarah. Downloaded Lite VGA and QVGA images: very good no more "out of memory".
Only thing to notice you must rename the data file , keeping the suffix "QVGA" out.
Waiting to complete the download of the big SVGA file to check what's the difference.

Sarah has done a truly great job here with the two versions. I've tested the Pro version from the standpoint of a practising geologist and this program is as much a MUST HAVE as the standard Field Manual !

My test parameters:
a WM6.5 PDA on a Snapdragon 1Ghz platform with 512Mb Storage, 256Mb RAM, GPS and a 16Gb card. This PDA has 108Mb free RAM on boot so "out-of-memory" is not an issue here

The databases in the program are comprehensive - physical, chemical, optical properties of over 4000 minerals, excellent high-resolution photos (the SVGA set) for 40% of the included minerals together with a zoom/scroll function for needed detail, and a GPS location option for field work. Heaven on a stick ! (or at least, on your phone)

This program is easy to install and easy to use. It is comprehensive and very well optioned. In addition to professional field work, the Pro program is ideal for Uni courses and associated activities. This is a very large potential audience

And Sarah has kindly provided all this as freeware ! I will promote this program amongst my colleagues and various Professional Associations.

Kudos to Sarah for tackling this and producing a world-class program :)
