IM SURE ANYONE WHO HAS TRIED TO USE OLDER TOMTOM VOICE FILES WITH TOMTOM 6, WILL FIND THEY JUST DO NOT WORK. OLDER TOMTOM VOICE FILES WHERE IN
WAVE FORMAT,NEW TOMTOM 6 VOICE FILES ARE IN .VIF
FILE FORMAT,WHICH IS .OGG SOUND FILES
COMPRESSED INTO JUST 2 FILES.

THE 2 PROGRAMES LISTED BELLOW WHICH ARE
FREEWARE,WILL ALLOW YOU TO USE ANY TOMTOM
VOICE FILES INCLUDING CELEB VOICES.

START WITH FreeRIP 2.95 TO CONVERT THE WAVE
FILES TOO .OGG. CLICK ON "TOOLS" "CONVERT MULTI
AUDIO FILES" DRAG ALL THE AUDIO FILES YOU WANT
TO CONVERT INTO THE WINDOW.

(I recomend you use these setings,you can chose a
higher min. bitrate to improve sound quality.)

ENCODING: 2-Ogg Vorbis
Stereo: 0-Mono
Mode: 0-Variable (VBR)
Min bitrate:128

AFTER CONVERSION TO OGG,YOU WILL HAVE THE FILES
LISTED BELLOW. YOU COULD CREATE YOUR OWN VOICE
FILES,JUST NAME THEM AS YOU SEE IN THE LIST.

THEN USE viftool2 TO CONVERT THE FILES SO THEY WILL WORK ON TOMTOM 6.

AT STEP 2 IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO GIVE YOUR FILE A NUMBER FROM 71-99,MAKE SURE YOU DONT ALREADY
HAVE A VOICE WITH THE NUMBER YOU SELECT. YOU
COULD LATER ON CHANGE THE NUMBER TOO BELLOW
71 JUST BUT EDITING.

AT STEP 3,I RECOMEND YOU NAME THE FILE TOO THE SAME NUMBER YOU USED AT STEP 2,OTHER WISE
TOMTOM WILL NOT FIND THE VOICE FILE IN THE MAIN
MENU.
THEN SAVE TO ANOTHER FOLDER ON DESKTOP.


After conversion,Open the Data vif file with notepad,then cut and paste the template bellow,so
Tomtom 6 will reconise the file. Change the 2 "Tim" too what ever you want to call your voice file. Also
change the"data04.chk " too the number that you
gave your file.

All of my voices are from the old TOMTOM 5, they all work perfectly on TOMTOM 6.

I have all those Celeb Voices, again they all work on TOMTOM 6.

Could you upload the Celeb Voices please ?

TT5 voices work fine on TT6... why bother?

Why post a comment that voice files from Tomtom 5 works fine with Tomtom 6,it is not helping anyone? They may do,but the earlier ones did not. There are lot of voice files for tomtom that are in wave format,they take up alot of space. Tomtom 6 uses .VIF files which are over 10 times smaller. You can use voice files from any other tomtom navitator such as tomtom Go and convert them too Tomtom 6. You could also use this software to covert voice from other navigation software.
10 Tomtom voice files in wave format can take up 80 Meg of space,but in .VIF format they only take up 8 Meg.

Why post a comment that voice files from Tomtom 5 works fine with Tomtom 6,it is not helping anyone? (...)

Maybe it helps someone who has TT5 voices and is wondering if they should download this before upgrading to TT6...

As far as i can see TT5 is older than TT6 so, that isn't written in stone... is it?
