Hi mynutia,

There are no newbie questions, only newbie answers... ;) we all gotta learn somewhere after all.... :D

You are correcting in your research, MioMap software is based on iGo... or at least WAS back in the day....

However, just recently, that partnership ended due to some legal drift between the two companies, and Mio had to split from them (they are now based on Mireo / SmartST software).

However going back to your map question, no you cant... as they are different product lines....

You could swap maps from iGo 2006, iGo 2006 Plus, MioMap 3.0, MioMap 3.2 and MioMap 3.3 (as well as the OnCourse 6, MyGuide variants too).

However, iGo 8 is a completely different product, with different formats (look at iGo 8, R1, R2, and R3). MioMap 2008 was based on iGo 8, again until they split, and now uses the Mireo/SmartST range of maps....

Hope this helps,

Lister

mynutia wrote:sorry for the newbie question but... will miomap v3.3 still work if i swap the original 2005/6 maps with the igo8 v8.0 maps? i had read that miomap is based on the igo software...

thanks in advance!

I also have a couple newbie questions. I am working with a MIO c320, and have everything working properly. I have MioMaps 3.3 installed, and also Igo 8 R3 as I was trying to figure which I prefered. I really like the MioMaps, but IMO the TTS is way better on Igo8 r3. Is there any way to use the TTS from Igo8 R3 on miomaps 3.3 ? Also, can anyone tell me if MioMaps 2008 is better than miomaps 3.3? Thanks, for any help anyone can provide.

Hi shhximxhiding,

As said before, there are no newbie questions, only a newbie response....

With regards to....

1) Nope, to best of my knowledge, the voices are not interchangable from iGo 2006 / MioMap 3.x to the new iGo 8 platform, completely different products.

2) In my opinion... MioMap 3.3 is better, it seems more polished/finished. Doesnt have any bugs in comparrision to MioMap 2008 which is very buggy. MioMap 3.3 is far more customizable at the moment too.

Cheers,

Lister

shhximxhiding, I can confirm they are not at ALL interchangable. They use two COMPLETELY different companies for the TTS source. Miomap 3.3 uses the RealSPEECH engine, I think, from I forget what company, while iGo8 uses the Loquendo TTS engine. Two completely different companies unfortunately so they are not at all interchangable.

I am now working with wifes Mio MOOV 500. I have unlocked with miopocket(installed on flash drive). I have miomaps 3.3 (jan 08) working, but can not get it to find a GPS device. GPS works fine on miomaps 2008 and Igo8 R3. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hi safiha,

I'm not entirely sure I understand what your trying to say... but to me it seems that part of the GUI (Graphical User Interface) is not responding to key presses. It could be that the skin/interface has become corrupted, or not the right version for the application your using.

You could try using a skin from this site: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topi ... e=1#550564

Image

It is by far the best skin I have seen and used on this platform, with so much more functionality with it too...

Let me know how ya get on.....

Hi shhximxhiding,

Hmmm, sounds like its not picking up your GPS hardware settings, or keeps loosing it each time you reset your device. As I am sure if you auto detect it, it will work. But on exiting, and restarting, it resets to a non working setting.

Have a look at this....

Sys.txt

[debug]
smart_2d=1
slowsim=1
loop_sim=1

[interface]
gxoff=1
mio=1
landscape=0
portrait=1
width=320
height=240
base="igo_se1/320_240/"
basel="igo_se1/320_240/"

[gps]
protocol="NMEA"
com_port=8
com_port_speed=38400

[speedcam]
usemio=-12,90,37,27

If you know what port your GPS works on, change the setting above...

I hope that helps,

Cheers,

Lister

Lister,

When I try to auto detect under MioMaps V3.3 it just says that it can not find GPS. No matter what I have tried I have never been able to get even the slightest signal under MioMaps V3.3, I think it must be not looking in the right place for the GPS receiver(possibly due to the Moov 500 using SiRFInstantFixII). When I use Igo8 (R3) or MioMaps 2008 it finds a receiver fine, but in MioMaps V3.3 it will not(or Garmin either).

I am not exactly sure what port my unit uses, is there a way for me to find out?

I am a total newb to this, but here is what my SYS.txt says(from miomaps v3.3). It does not look like what you posted, should I make some changes?

[interface]
mio=1
width=480
height=272
compass_circle_icon="circle.spr"
rotoffset=5

[debug]
mute_os_key=1
tts_min_ready_wav= 1
tts_getaway_time=100
sound_q_length=200

[gps]
baud=57600
port=1
portname_template="VSP%d:"

[speedcam]
disable="_SUI", "_GER", "_AUT"

[bluetooth]
send_showphoneui_on_dial=1

[usb]
enable_on_shutdown=1
disable_on_startup=0
quitmap_msg_quits=0
