There are no newbie questions, only newbie answers... we all gotta learn somewhere after all....
You are correcting in your research, MioMap software is based on iGo... or at least WAS back in the day....
However, just recently, that partnership ended due to some legal drift between the two companies, and Mio had to split from them (they are now based on Mireo / SmartST software).
However going back to your map question, no you cant... as they are different product lines....
You could swap maps from iGo 2006, iGo 2006 Plus, MioMap 3.0, MioMap 3.2 and MioMap 3.3 (as well as the OnCourse 6, MyGuide variants too).
However, iGo 8 is a completely different product, with different formats (look at iGo 8, R1, R2, and R3). MioMap 2008 was based on iGo 8, again until they split, and now uses the Mireo/SmartST range of maps....
