Release Tester's Review

Tested/Working on: WM2003SE / WM6
Not tested on: PPC2000 / 2002 / 2003 / WM5
Rating: Originality: 7/10 - Quality: 10/10 - Performance: 9/10 - Average: 9/10
Comment: I think I'm in love. For the past month I have been using TomTom 6 with the USA&Canada maps and a variety of celebrity voices. It is easily the best GPS program on the market. The maps are accurate, the voices are intelligent, and it supports a wide range of receivers. I highly recommend the night-viewing mode. It looks horrible during the day but it is really nice at night. All in all, TomTom isn't very different from other GPS programs but it is the attention to detail and the quality of the programming that makes it so much better than the rest. I did have it crash once on an HP 5550 due to an alert from another application, but it was easy to start it back up again.
Also look at:

This version doesn't do 7-digit postcodes for me. Only 4-digit. Any bright sparks know a way I can get it to do 7?

I've *almost* successfully installed TT6.02 on a 4.3" screen PNA running on WinCE 4.2. The only problem is that the menu items (those that show up when you tap on the map) do not show up. When I tap on the map, nothing seem to happen. It remains in the map screen. I can tap to execute different functions within of the menu item, but its like shooting in the dark. Those items just do not show up, yet their functions are available when you happen to tap at the right region. Has anyone came across this when trying to run TT on a 4.3" screen device?

Bumping this I know, but I needed a new TTN install after I let my HTC Alpine run out of battery power (yeah, the last HTC device with no permanent memory! ;)) ... so of course, I had to reinstall everything again as it was wiped clean when its backup battery ran out.

I did much searching around and reading up on various places (including here) - some nice person compiled TTN6.030 (8320) and the UK & IRE plus major Western EU roads (GB Plus?) into one file: http://is.gd/53LlZ (link is a very long .torrent link to TPB; shortened it as the PPCW forum broke the link)

This version does come with the Guam map, but I didn't even bother to activate it. I ran the autorun install from my existing SD (with data already on), copied the map folder over to the SD card root and overwrote the TTN installation with the files included in the archive... And it worked perfectly, didn't even ask me to validate the map install (although it also comes with a bunch of keygens for various maps).

Not tried on my WM6.1 HTC Hermes, but I don't really care whether it works or not. My Bluetooth GPS worked perfectly with the Alpine as soon as I paired it, and the whole thing is working flawlessly so far. Can't argue with that! All of 20 minutes' worth of work, and that was whilst watching Days of Thunder :D HTH for anybody on the hunt for the best working version on old WM2003SE devices like me.
