Sometimes the mods are not very clear, some are having difficulty expressing in English.
Most mods don't make your app/account premium. If the account is tied to server is almost impossible. What they do is unlocking some premium features, remove some things, adding some, modify.
About AdGuard VPN, if you try the official one you will see that you need to confirm your email and after you log in to the app you can use only ~13 servers or so from the 50 available. You still have a free and not premium account. You still have only 3GB/month available and the speed is still limited.
Even if in the previous mods it said Premium it was not, all the limitations was there, except access to all servers and creating accounts with fake emails without confirmation.
If the app (any app) is not working well, try to force close it, clear cache, sometimes maybe you need to do a clean install.
To be safe, when you exceed the limit, log out, force stop, clear cache, sign up/log in with another account.
If AdGuard VPN is not what you need it might be a good idea to use another with less restrictions.
I will paste what I said before:
"Settings-App Settings-Advanced Settings-Diagnostic info-expiration time & license status
After 3GB you get throttled even more than the 20 Mb/s limit at 1 Mb/s as you already saw and you can forget about that account for a MONTH. A new one will solve the problem, until you get to the same point, again, rinse and repeat."
"- My limit was exhausted so I cleared data and tried creating new account with random email id. But it is saying that 'Please enter a valid mail'. What to do?
Try a different pattern, they have some protection for fake emails. Sometimes it is working if you change just the domain or the user.
Think of a user that could be a real one, or use some words and you can build on it with the next ones (1,2...32 or I, II xxxii or something else, use the same pass) and after a month you can reuse them, recycle and login again from the start to not keep creating new useless ones."

If the locations available in the free version are enough for you, you don't need the mod just stick with the play store version.
Just create new accounts with fake emails, or use Temp Email services. Every time you log in with a fake email you need to force stop the app, otherwise it won't connect to the server.
