Image Boundless Comics

    A new company in the comic book industry, the first and so far only character is their flagship character Lady Death. They have decided to stay small and focus on Lady Death by giving her a brand new monthly series set to premiere in October and a collection of paperbacks known as Lady Death: Origins presumably coinciding with the monthly series' release.

Image Aspen MLT

    Aspen MLT is a California entertainment company founded by artist Michael Turner. It has locations in Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey. Launched in January 2003, the company is best known for producing comic books and figurines.

    After leaving Top Cow, Michael Turner created his own company. He named it after the protagonist, Aspen from his first creator owned comic book Fathom.

    The first on-going series produced by Aspen was Soulfire.

Image WildStorm

    WildStorm Productions, or simply WildStorm, (often rendered Wildstorm) published American comic books. Originally an independent company established by Jim Lee and further expanded upon in subsequent years by other creators, WildStorm became a publishing imprint Image of DC Comics in 1999. Until it was shut down, the WildStorm imprint remained editorially separate from DC Comics, with its main studio located on the West Coast.

    Dynamite Entertainment is an American comic book company that primarily publishes licensed franchises (The Boys, Red Sonja, Army of Darkness, The Phantom, Terminator, RoboCop), literary adaptations (Zorro, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland), and also its own superhero universe (Project Superpowers). Dynamite works with many established names in the comic book industry such as Alex Ross, John Cassaday, Matt Wagner, Garth Ennis, Howard Chaykin, and Frank Miller. They have received critical acclaim with their books, receiving two Diamond Comic Distributor Gem Awards, a 2008 Harvey Award for Best American Edition of Foreign Material, and Eisner Award nominations for Zorro, The Boys, and The Lone Ranger. In 2010, Dynamite Entertainment acquired the Vampirella property from Harris Publications.

Image Th3rd World Studios

    Th3rd World Studios launched as a web comic, comic graphic novel studio in 2006. It was co-founded by Michael DeVito and Jon Conkling along with Scott Closter and Justin Robinson. After working for several other companies in various capacities the Th3rd World founders decided to go out on their own. Their goal was to develop properties that were absent in the then saturated zombie and vampire markets.

Image Marvel Comics

    Marvel Worldwide, Inc., commonly referred to as Marvel Comics and formerly Marvel Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Comics Group, is an American company that publishes comic books and related media. Marvel Entertainment, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, owns Marvel Worldwide.[2]

    The company started in 1939 as Timely Publications, and by the early 1950s had generally become known as Atlas Comics. Marvel's modern incarnation dates from 1961, with the company later that year launching Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and others.

    Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Thor and Captain America; antagonists such as Doctor Doom, the Green Goblin, Magneto, Galactus, and the Red Skull; and others. Most of Marvel's fictional characters operate in a single reality known as the Marvel Universe, with locales set in real-life cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.[3]

    In 2009, The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel Comics' parent company, Marvel Entertainment for $4.24 billion.

    DC Comics, Inc. (founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications) is one of the largest and most successful companies (with Marvel Comics) operating in the market for American comic books and related media. It is the publishing unit of DC Entertainment a company of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which itself is owned by Time Warner. DC Comics produces material featuring a large number of well-known characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Robin, Aquaman, Nightwing, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, and the Flash, and such superhero teams as the Justice League and the Teen Titans, and such antagonists as Lex Luthor, the Joker, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Catwoman, Sinestro, the Penguin, Two-Face, General Zod, Gorilla Grodd, Brainiac, and Darkseid.

    The initials "DC" came from the company's popular series Detective Comics, which subsequently became part of the company's name. The title can be considered a redundant initialism. DC Comics has its headquarters at 1700 Broadway, Midtown Manhattan, New York, New York. Random House distributes DC Comics' books to the bookstore market, while Diamond Comic Distributors supplies the comics shop specialty market.

    DC Comics and its major, longtime competitor Marvel Comics (currently owned by Time Warner's main rival The Walt Disney Company) together shared over 80% of the American comic-book market as of 2008[update]

Image Comico: The Comic Company

    Comico: The Comic Company was an American comic book publisher, headquartered in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Its best-known comics include the Robotech adaptations, the Jonny Quest continuation written by co-creator Doug Wildey, and Matt Wagner's Mage: The Hero Discovered and Grendel. Once considered a major contender on the American market, Comico went into bankruptcy in 1990, although it continued to sporadically publish books until 1997. In 2009, two of Comico's original founders launched an original webcomics site called CO2 Comics, which they claim is the reincarnation of Comico.

Image Dark Horse Comics

    Dark Horse Comics is the largest independent American comic book and manga publisher.

    Dark Horse Comics was founded in 1986 by Mike Richardson in Milwaukie, Oregon, with the concept of establishing an ideal atmosphere for creative professionals. Richardson started out by opening his first comic book store, Pegasus Books, in Bend, Oregon, in 1980. From there he was able to use the funds from his retail operation to start his own publishing company.

Image Four Walls Eight Windows

    Four Walls Eight Windows was founded in 1987, publishing fiction and non- fiction. This small press was purchased by the Avalon Publishing Group, and its list of titles was subsumed into that publisher's backlist. In its day, Four Walls Eight Windows published some notable Science Fiction/ Fantasy work, including Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower," and Jay Russell's "Brown Harvest".

Image Boom! Studios

    BOOM! Studios was started by Ross Richie and Andrew Crosby. The two had known each other in their time working at Malibu Comics and had left there to pursue the bright lights of Hollywood. They launched BOOM! in 2005 and was voted Best New Publisher by Wizard Magazine.

    They have since gone on to grow to be one of the larger of the independent publishers by making bold moves in their publishing regime. They were the first publisher to release a digital comic book on the same day that it was released in print. They also made news by announcing a partnership with Stan Lee to launch new titles that he partnered in creating.

    BOOM! has also become known for their licensed properties. They resurrected The Muppet Show, Farscape, and Darkwing Duck. They also hold the license to do work with Disney characters.

    IDW Publishing, also known as Idea + Design Works, LLC and IDW, is an American publisher of comic books and comic strip collections. The company was founded in 1999 and has been awarded the title "Publisher of the Year Under 5% Market Share" for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006 by Diamond Comic Distributors. IDW is the fifth largest publisher of American comic books. In addition to their printed comics and graphic novels, IDW has more than 650 books in digital distribution across multiple partners and platforms.

    The company was initially known for horror comics, such as 30 Days of Night and Dark Days. Some well-known writers and artists of horror comics, including Ashley Wood, Ben Templesmith and Steve Niles contributed to IDW. The company now also specializes in licensed properties, acquiring the rights to 24, Angel, CSI, Transformers, Star Trek, Dick Tracy, Doctor Who, G.I. Joe, True Blood, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Godzilla.

    Harris Publications Inc. is a consumer magazine publisher located in New York that publishes over 75 titles, including Juicy, XXL, King, Dog News, 0-60, Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement, Small Business Opportunities, Men's Workout, Exercise & Health, Celebrity Hairstyles, Tactical Knives, Combat Handguns, and many more. One major division, Harris Outdoor Magazines, publishes several titles on hunting, fishing, and firearms. Harris Comics published the former Warren Publishing character Vampirella for nearly two decades.

Image Gestalt Publishing

    Gestalt Publishing is Australia's largest, independent graphic novel publishing house.[citation needed]

    The company was officially founded in Applecross, Western Australia, on the 1st July 2005 by Wolfgang Bylsma and Skye Ogden, although they had previously been involved in creating, editing and publishing underground and editorial comics since the early-1990s.

    Gestalt operates out of Perth, Western Australia and Tokyo, Japan.

    To date, Gestalt Publishing have published such notable books as The Deep: Here Be Dragons, Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday, The Example[1], Vowels, Flinch and Character Sketches.

    Gestalt have published the work of many well-known creators, including Shaun Tan, James Barclay, Colin Wilson, Tom Taylor, Terry Dowling and Justin Randall.
